July Creature Exchange

My part of the July exchange at Creature-Exchange ! This was the first one I've ever done so I really tried to be creative ;w; I got BERSERKERX12 , and their prompt was here.

1 - What parts of your prompt were written well and easy to understand? Was there anything the writer of the prompt could improve on or include next time they create a prompt?
All of the prompt was easy to understand! 

2 - Please explain how you interpreted the prompt to create your design. Which features did you use? Did you stick to the chosen palette or make changes to it? Does the design you created have any special abilities or quirks?
I first tried to go for a nice "chubby, spoiled pet" design without straying too close to the species that served as inspiration for the design. I tried to further the 'spoiled pet' theme while knocking out the 'fluffy fur' feature, so the rings you see around their feet are actually fur. This dragon grows pink fur rather slowly, so their owner tends to get them groomed much like how you see poodles groomed. The deeper, duller red is actually their skin tone while the pinker shade is what they would be if their owner let their fluffy fur grow out.

As you can see, their tail and front arms and tummy are all chubby, and even their neck (which is in fact a noodle neck, just all scrunched up!)-- which can stretch much farther that what is shown in the picture. I tend to think that their neck will stay all squished like this whenever they're in a calm, or rather smug, mood, while it extends whenever they're alert or hungry. They're kind of a glutton, being a spoiled pet and all, and they almost always wear that expression. Their back legs are slightly smaller than their front legs, and while they can stand bipedal for a short amount of time, they usually stand on all fours with their front half slightly higher than their haunches due to the difference in the size of their limbs.

They have a forked, reptillian tongue and many small, sharp teeth which they use to eat the expensive meat they're given. They also have hooked, retractable claws (much like a feline) that are rarely put away. They also sometimes use these to pick apart their food, though they prefer not to get their rather dainty feet dirty. 

They have horns that extend between each ear-- in which they have four ears in all. In addition, they have a third eye that normally remains closed unless they are startled or wary. I wanted to give them multiple limbs like you asked but any design I tried covered up their chubby tummy, which I thought was more important ;w; .

In order to go for a more space-theme, they have orbs that 'orbit' their neck and head. When thinking of the placement for these, think of a horse mane. The skin on their ears, nose, shoulders, knees, feet, and tail all have the same purple shade as their nails and horns, as well as white and pink (think fur color) freckles in order to sort of mimic stars or galaxies without going with an all-out galaxy palette. I decided to go with space instead of nature since you said you didn't really care for greens or yellows, but reds/blues/purples. I figured pastels would be too far off from the muted space colors owo" I used all but the two darkest shades in this palette, plus the blue and yellow I added 

Finally, you said you maybe wanted a collar. I went ahead and gave them two, made out of gold, gems, and a bell (because they're a rather regal pet). The higher one is rather tightly-fitting while the other sits very loose over their shoulders. Feel free to remove these if you'd like!
